Certified as A PADI Scuba Diver, Now What?

Once you have obtained the PADI Scuba Diver certification, you are eligible to dive up to 12 meters (40 feet) under the direct supervision of a Divemaster or Instructor. You can also participate in a variety of other dive activities, as long as you are supervised correctly.

What You Will Learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course is designed for complete beginners who have no prior diving experience. This course combines dive theory with practical exercises, setting the foundations for every diver’s life-long journey underwater.

 

The PADI open water diver course is split up into three parts:

  1. Theory - During this part of the course, you will learn about the basics of scuba diving, such as how to set up your equipment and about dive safety standards. The theory is usually done in a classroom with your dive instructor, but you can save time from classroom dive theory and study at your own pace with PADI eLearning.

    You will be required to complete knowledge reviews, and you will need to pass a multiple-choice exam.

     

  2. Five Confined Water Sessions - These usually take place in the swimming pool, where you will get familiar with your dive equipment and get accustomed to breathing underwater. You will learn basic scuba skills that are needed to comfortably enter the underwater world.

  3. Four Open Water Dives - To pass the PADI Open Water Diver course, you will need to complete four open water dives. Depending on your location, they may take place in the ocean, or even in a lake or quarry. You will be expected to show that you understand the basic dive skills during your open water dives.
