ABOUT US

La Galigo is a premier diving Liveaboard that operates in Indonesia at some of the most popular diving locations in the world, Komodo, Raja Ampat and Wakatobi are among some of these fantastic diving destinations. Indonesia has some of the highest Biodiversity on the planet and is home to The Coral Triangle.

La Galigo was conceived back in 2014 when two avid divers wanted to explore some of the pristine reefs in Indonesia but found existing Indonesian liveaboard choices were often out of budget. Nowadays liveaboard diving is very much friends and family affair, and they identified a niche in the market to provide a fun, comfortable, affordable, liveaboard adventure.

La Galigo was acquired in Bali, a beautiful purpose built ‘Phinisi’ style dive Liveaboard, handcrafted by the Bugis people of Southern Sulawesi.

We pride ourselves on our Indonesian crew, who have collectively spent many years sailing and diving around a significant number of the 18,000+ stunning islands that make up Indonesia.

Our schedule is primarily split between Raja Ampat and Komodo, though we offer the opportunity to dive, Wakatobi, Banda, Ambon, Maumere, Alor and beyond. We are predominantly a dive liveaboard but enjoy tailoring bespoke charters that our guests desire.

We often include land excursions as part of our trips, so our guests get to experience the beauty of the islands as well as marvel at the underwater world.

KOMODO DESTINATIONS

We offer two liveaboard trips to Komodo.

Jurassic Komodo - Our Jurassic Komodo trip takes in the highlights of the UNESCO world heritage site, both above and below the surface. Dive with schools of jacks on the world-class Batu Bolong, and drift along with the community of Manta Rays on the unique dive site of Karang Makassar.

Ultimate Komodo - Our Ultimate Komodo trip takes in all the wonders that Komodo National Park has to offer, in one sitting. No other liveaboard covers the nautical miles that La Galigo does through this trip. From the Stunning Diving to the scenic views of Padar.

The rock is packed with bronze and rust colored sponges and soft tree corals. Black snappers, large cuttlefish, pyramid butterfly fish, and octopus galore await us there. • DAY 6 - Some sites are just so good that you have to go back and do them again. That’s how we start day 6 with an early morning revisit to Karang Makassar. Prepare to find even more bizarre macro critters and majestic large animals at Batu Bolong after break number 2. Lunch – Cruise – Mawan dive site, who wants to loose their passport so this trip never ends! The breathtaking Siaba bay is our night dive spot today.

  • DAY 7 - We start to wind down today as the trip starts to come to an end. To give you 24hrs to pass off your Nitrogen before tomorrow’s flight, we will only do 2 morning dives today. The first dive will be Penga Kecil and the second is Wainilu. The afternoon is spent swapping stories, having laughs and cracking a few cold ones with your new bff’s. A mystical sunset is spent anchored up near Bat Island, where you will witness 10,000’s of bats fly out at sundown to find fresh fruits to feast on.

  • Day 8 - Disembark - From 07:00 we will be anchored in Labuan Bajo in preparation for disembarkation, however, guests may stay on-board until 11am for breakfast with us!

Please note: La Galigo will not guarantee an itinerary, this is meant for illustrative purposes only.

The summa strait and the weather conditions in the area are highly unpredictable. We will not risk our vessel, or our passengers’ safety if our captain and chief officer feel that conditions will not allow us to travel to certain areas.

Ultimate Komodo Favourite Dive Sites

Here is a small selection of the most popular and well-known dive sites that we like to visit in the Raja Ampat area.

  • Batu Bolong - Widely considered to be one of Komodo’s best dive sites, Batu Bolong is also one of its most challenging. Powerful tidal currents and the plunging slopes of this tiny rock outcrop located between Tatawa Kecil and Komodo Island has made it a fish market down there.

  • Manta Point - Karang Makassar is actually three large reef shoals that run north-south along the east coast of Komodo, forming a barrier reef. It is a famous and popular site for watching manta rays, which gathering here for large part of the year and are responsible for a section of the site being named Manta Point.

  • Castle Rock - Located just north of Gili Lawa Laut, the top of this submerged seamount lies at depth 5m. This site forms large boulders and rocky outcrops on surroundings, that have given the site its name. At 20-25m descending divers are frequently met by whitetip reef sharks and massive trevally.

  • Mawan - Mawan is a small part of islet to the north of Padar island, ringed by white sandy beaches and shallow coral gardens. The dive begins close to the beach on the southwest side of the island. Descend to around 15m and swim southwest, following a wide coral-covered slope.

  • Secret Garden - This site is in front of the Padar Kecil island located in south Padar. Begin the dive on the southern part and we will slightly drifted to northeast with the sceneries of steep slope and you will find sandy slope where the black coral is.

  • Three Sisters - The Three Sisters is an unusual underwater rock formation just east of Padar island that makes the name of this site. The sisters are three large, submerged rocks that rise straight up from the flat sand and rubble bottom. They are within easy swimming distance of each other

  • Siaba Besar - Siaba Besar is located to the north of Rinca Island. Best dived on a falling tide, when the currents will carry you mildly to south towards a beautiful coral garden. Begin the dive at the northern tip of the island. Follow the reef slope down to 20-24m, where a series of dynamic overhangs wait to be explored.

  • Cannibal Rock - Cannibal Rock is THE dive site for macro and is a delight for macro photographers and critter hunters. This sea mound is located south of Komodo National Park and the water can be a little bit cold with current coming from the Pacific Ocean. This dive site is really famous for the wide range of strange and weird invertebrates and its wonderful soft coral.

  • Bombastic Forest - Siaba Besar is located to the north of Rinca Island. Best dived on a falling tide, when the currents will carry you mildly to south towards a beautiful coral garden. Begin the dive at the northern tip of the island. Follow the reef slope down to 20-24m, where a series of dynamic overhangs wait to be explored.
